根據Helen(2005)之定義，e-Portfolio主要是使用電子化的科技，允許老師與學生透過許多不同的媒體，來蒐集並組織Portfolio的內容，並使用超連結的方式來組織這些資料，且連結證據顯示其成果、目標或是標準。而在以往也有許多針對e-Portfolio所做的研究，其指出了e-Portfolio可以比傳統考試更敏感的展現學生的性向與能力，畢業後，能提供給企業與社會的更是一個有效的能力證明，但是即使我們了解教學的e-Portfolio能帶給學生種種益處，其卻無法在校園或企業中很有要的施行。因為學生很少會去主動的學習e-Portfolio的建置與使用，如果學生不夠積極，便不會主動的去使用它。
在與老師同學的討論中，我們談到了動機，要如何讓學生去使用e-Portfolio，甚至是自動自發的使用，其應為e-Portfolio成功的一向關鍵因素，回想起在那課堂上的談論中，我們講到了誘因，是否有什麼誘因可以讓學生主動的使用e-Portfolio系統，如同填寫問卷的禮券抽獎？更高的分數？我想，這些都不是長遠之道。於Helen(2005)中，使用電子化科技來建置e-Portfolio，很重要的一點提到Web 2.0概念中的協同運作，我們可以試著假想一種情況，在e-Portfolio的使用中，我們可以如同使用社群網站般，對他人的作品做出評論、比較，久而久之，同學們習慣性的使用該系統，如同BBS般，變成一種同學間帶有默契的傳統，如此非強迫性的動機，才能使得每位同學都會自發性的使用e-Portfolio。此外，使用協同合作的模式，也可以讓別人的評論轉變成為一種公正的評價機制，使得此一e-Portfolio的公正與公平性得到提昇。
要如何讓e-Portfolio變成同學們習慣使用的系統？對此，我們並沒有一個很完美的解決之道，但依我個人的想法，與理想的自發性使用卻有所矛盾，一個資訊系統在導入時，勢必需要一個團體由上至下的支持，甚至是強迫性的使用一段過渡時間，才有可能會在施行上較為順利，舉個例子來說，老師要求學生將作業放置e-Portfolio上，並進行批閱，甚至每隔一段時間審查e-Portfolio建置的進度等等，雖然有違自發性的原則，但經過時間推移，畢業的學生都可以提出一完善的e-Portfolio來供企業審查，久而久之，其他人也可以知道e-Portfolio所帶來的好處，進而轉變為學校的一種傳統，學生也會自發性的使用學校的e-Portfolio系統。

What if they find negative things about you on the web? Or wvwn worse, what if they find no mention of you at all? An e-portfolio can help you build and manage your online reputation.
